Any of this sound familiar?

  • You're passionate about community building & keen to master it
  • You believe that community is the future of business success
  • You genuinely want to positively impact the lives of others
  • You’re intrigued about how others have set up their communities
  • You feel you could be more efficient but don’t have the time to learn
  • You’d love to get the inside scoop on which tech tools others are using
  • You know the value of community but struggle to articulate it
  • You wear multiple hats & feel like you’re doing 3 jobs in 1
  • It’s tough to consistently drive engagement amid global conditions, time-poor members & digital fatigue
  • It confusing to know which metrics to track & measure impact
  • You’d love more members in the space & higher event attendance
  • It’s tough managing members across multiple time zones & cultures
  • You’re unsure about how to build a financially viable community
  • You crave connection with people who honestly just get it

Our Ambassador Ines at StartSpace

We get you

Jess Walker and Paz Pisarski

Jess Walker & Paz Pisarski

You're in good hands with our Cohort Lead, Jess Walker and Co-Founder, Paz Pisarski, who will guide you through your cohort experience and make it memorable.

Jess loves all things community, having previously headed up programs and community at Airtree Ventures one of Australia’s largest Venture Capital Firms. She also founded a company in New Zealand in 2016, Idle Property Management, which was acquired in 2019. Currently she's travelling the world working remote in a different country each program, whilst she also sits on the board of Fishburners, Sydney’s largest Startup CoWorking hub.

Paz has dedicated her life to helping people build mind blowing communities. Before co-founding The Community Collective, she managed a 60k+ founder community at not-for-profit, The Startup Network, grew a university's startup community from 500 to 5000+ at RMIT Activator and automated 9 hours of manual onboarding tasks at Happy Spaces co-working. Today she lives along the Surf Coast, Australia where she co-hosts the Cohort and composes relaxation music as Paz Sounds.

Great question. We’ve run 3 Cohorts since October 2022.

Here’s a snapshot in numbers:

  • Cohort #1 - 36 community builders, 71 NPS, 0 Community Strategies submitted
  • Cohort #2 - 51 community builders, 78 NPS, 9 Community Strategies submitted
  • Cohort #3 - 62 community builders, 85 NPS, 25 Community Strategies submitted
  • Cohort #4 Waitlist - 476

Here’s a quick snapshot in words:

“The CC has solidified my pathway. Made me feel seen, heard and understood in community management. The network is life-changing and the workshops changed the way I operate as a community builder.”

- Jack Hallam, General Manager @ Ammo Marketing

“The Cohort turned my fairly lonely community management journey that I don't feel like I can explain to anyone, into a purpose that I am proud to share. I have so much more confidence in my role as a community builder after 8 weeks and not only have a better understanding of what I currently do, but also what I WANT to do.”

- Kirsten McNeice, Head of Community @ Werkling

You can read about our past Cohorts via the articles written by our Alumni here.

Our Cohort is more of a ‘build your own adventure’ type experience.

You basically get access to our community, portal and Slack for 5 months to leverage in your own time. There's a weekly Monday email and all online sessions are recorded and uploaded to our portal within 48 hours if you'd prefer to consume when it works for you. You can also opt-in or out of catch ups and coaching to ensure it's aligned with your schedule.

Obviously you'll gain value from the Cohort based on how much you put into it.

We recommended dedicating at least 1 hour per week to read the Monday update email, keep up to date in Slack and then opt-in to anything else you'd like to choose.

This program is designed to fit in with those working full time. Cohort Workshops are scheduled in the early mornings and late afternoons in the AEST Melbourne timezone to accommodate full-time working hours. Everything is optional so you pick what feels most aligned and what you have capacity for.

Application Process:

  • Stage 1: Submit your written application
  • Stage 2: Interview with The CC team or video submission
  • Stage 3: Outcomes sent via email

No interviews are required for Cohort alumni looking to rejoin.

Key Dates:

  • Stage 1: Applications open 13 February @ 12pm AEDT
  • Stage 1: Applications close 19 March @ 12pm AEDT
  • Stage 2: Interviews with The CC Team between 20 February -  18 March 2024
  • Stage 3: Application outcomes sent before 25 March 2024
  • Onboarding: Welcome email sent before 28 March 2024
  • Onboarding: Week 1 Cohort Kick Off on Wed 10 April @ 8am – 9:15am AEST

Let the mind blowing experience begin!

Nope! We welcome anyone building community from around the world to join us. We have Cohort Alumni who are based in Australia, New Zealand, Nigeria, England, India, Spain, America, Sri Lanka and Colombia. Will you be the first person to join from your country?! How cool!

Given the global nature of our program, we try to accomodate multiple timezones when scheduling our live sessions so that there is something for everyone.

If you find one particular online session at an unfriendly time, we don't expect you to wake up at crazy hours to join us live! You are welcome to watch all the recordings in your own time and ask questions in Slack when you need. In saying that... we've had many members get up at 2am to join is - PJs and bed hair are so welcome!

We accept community builders, operators and founders who are actively building or managing a community for a business or defined goal.

We DO also accept those who are just about to launch a new community. For example you have 20 people keen to join your community and are about to host the first gathering.

We DO NOT accept those who are not actively building or managing a community to ensure we are serving and connecting those who are at similar stages.

We do make exceptions for community builders who have just been made redundant from their role and are looking to upskill, join a community and find their next role.

You're a great fit for this program if you are:

  • Managing a community for a business / startup
  • Building a new community from scratch
  • Running an accelerator, incubator or cohort-based program
  • Leading an online membership and continuously organising events
  • Organising events and connecting people on an ongoing basis
  • Working at a co-working space
  • Launching an app and want to build a community around it
  • Starting your first or looking for your next community-focused role
  • Managing a portfolio of founders as an Investment Analysis
  • Forging strong connections between partners as a Partnership Manager
  • Creating a lasting impact for an in person not-for-profit community
  • Recording a podcast and building a community around it

Apply anyway! You never know what could come from it. We read every application and respond to you with the outcome.

You can also attend our Info Session or Launch Dinner to learn more and ask us any questions. Or email us at hello@thecommunitycollective.co.

Whilst we'd love to accept everyone, we review each application and accept them based on whether they are actively building or managing a community or not.

Coaching is a great opportunity to chat 1-1 with our Coaches about a specific challenge or question you have.

If you DO get the Add Coaching Package, you are able to book 3 x 1-1 60 minute coaching sessions with our Cohort Coaches. You choose who and when you'd like to book each session online. You get 3 coaching sessions for $400 AUD total.

If you DON'T get the Add Coaching Package, you are still able to book 1-1 coaching with our Cohort Coaches. Each 60min coaching session is $200 AUD and you can book as many as you like with whichever coach you like. You pay per booking.

Coaching runs all year round between Mon - Fri 8am - 8pm AEST and can be booked during and after the program. You book the times that work best for you. It's also up to you to come prepared with specific questions to ask our coaches.

Our Cohort Coaches are:

  • Tim Duggan: Author @ Cult Status & Killer Thinking, Co-Founder @ Junkee Media
  • Yana Belova: Education Community Manager @ Canva, Advisor @ Miro, Chapter Host @ CMX
  • Ben Davies: Community Manager @ Smokeball, Ex Community Manager @ Dovetail & Canva

We run online sessions at various times throughout the week to accomodate different schedules and timezones. After all our Cohort Alumni are across 9 countries!

Cohort Workshops run every Wednesday @ 8am - 9:15am and Thursdays @ 4pm - 5:15pm AEST Melbourne timezone. There are 2 workshops per week.

Cohort Connects and Cohort Coworkings run every Friday @ 8am - 9:15am AEST. There is 1 session per week. Each week alternates between either a Cohort Connect (networking) or Cohort Coworking (get your Strategy done).

All attendance is optional. We recommend prioritising attending the Cohort Workshops, but of course the more you show up live, the more value you will get.

The live sessions are where the gold is! We encourage you to attend live, but if you can't make them, we get it. Life can be full!

All online sessions are recorded and uploaded to the Cohort Portal within 48 hours. You are welcome to engage with the Cohort in the ways that suit you best. And if that means binge watching all the recordings, asking questions in Slack, booking coaching and checking in with your Cohort Crew - then that's great.

We have had people who joined the Cohort for the community, connections, resources, coaching and content and found tons of value.

All in person dinners are optional to join. As much as we'd love to host sessions in all locations, we too have limits! However, if we have more than 8 people join from one city, then we are open to co-organising extra in person socials.

Plus you'll be able to see who joins from where and connect with them in Slack, meaning you're welcome to organise your own catch ups too.

Hint hint: our #member-meetups Slack channel is a great place to connect with fellow CC'ians in your own local city!

Not at all! If you can get there then you are welcome to join. What a great excuse to travel hey!

You will have access to our Cohort Portal and Slack for the 8-week program and 3-months after the program end date.

We are all about integrating into your life, not taking it over! This more relaxed week gives you time and space to consolidate what you have learned and catch up on anything you've missed, whilst coming back fresh to make the most of the last 3 weeks. You will also have the opportunity to complete your Community Strategy Template and submit it by the end of Week 5 to receive feedback from our Alumni Editors.

We run 2 Community Cohorts per year. Cohort #5 kicks off Mon 16 Sept - Fri 8 Nov 2024

Yes. Life can be tough! We believe in making this as accessible as possible.

You can apply to be considered for a Scholarship by submitting the Scholarship Application here in addition to your Cohort Application before 19 March @ 12pm AEDT.

We prioritise those from disadvantaged groups or those living below the poverty line.

Yes! We've had over 30+ alumni re-join a program for a second or third time to continue up-skilling and re-visit their Community Strategy!

All alumni from our previous Cohorts are welcome to rejoin through our Alumni Pass, an Alumni Role or Residency Package. Simply email us and you will be instantly accepted into the program.

Why rejoin? This is your chance to up-skill once again, connect with the more community builders, access the new portal, learn from our new speakers, book 1-1 coaching, support the new Cohort of community builders, extend your Slack access and continue browsing the content library resources. We'd love to welcome you once again. Plus it's like reaching a book for a 2nd time - you pick up on new things again and again.

1. You are actively managing a community for a business or clear purpose

2. If you are not actively managing one, you have at least 20 people interested in joining your new community and are approximately 1 month away from launching it

3. You uphold the behaviour outlined in our Community Guidelines

4. You have a wifi connection to access the program

5. You are a passionate human ready and willing to support others and the industry to grow as a whole

If you are unsure if you fit this criteria, apply anyway and we can let you know.

Community is the new currency.

But building an impactful one can be tough, exhausting & lonely.

We're building a movement to change that.
